What is it about plastic??

I first started my fascination with plastic containers during a period in my life I like to call “The Great Flood of 2008”.  Like many people who haven’t quite managed their garage storage properly, I lost years of photos, memories and well spent money when my apartment garage flooded while I was away on vacation.  I remember checking my voicemail after our flight landed and hearing my landlord say “your apartment flooded while you were gone, but don’t worry, we had the water vacuumed up from your carpet...” Great! The carpet that isn’t mine is safe… thanks for the notice! But what about all that “stuff” I have in my garage in cardboard boxes??? Well, as you can imagine, almost all of it was ruined by water stains and some precious items were hardly recognizable due to the mold that set in while I was gallivanting on my vacation!

So, that’s when I vowed to organize my remaining belongings into plastic storage! At first I thought I’d start with just enough to store the important things, but as I began to see how amazingly neat my once dreary garage looked, I realized, why stop there?! Everything gets a home!!

And it’s not just about storing, it’s about sorting items into convenient, logically divided spaces so that you don’t have to dread looking for that once-a-year-barely-used-item that is under who knows where!  As you can see in my own garage picture, once you sort it and store it, you label it!

Now I love going into my garage (that’s right ladies, garages can be for us too) and I love knowing that my family photos and memories won’t be destroyed the next time I take a little time for R&R!
